Useful Guidance for Caring for Your New Puppy

Once a Sugarloaf Shepherd - Always a Sugarloaf Shepherd

Once a puppy is born into the Sugarloaf Shepherd family, he (or she) is a Sugarloaf Shepherd for life. If there is ever a time that the buyer cannot keep a puppy bought from Sugarloaf Shepherds, the dog should never be given up to a shelter or a rescue group. The buyer should just let us know and we'll take the puppy (or grown dog) back. Our puppy sales contracts reinforce our promise that our Sugarloaf Shepherds will always have a home with us, if necessary, to ensure their protection in case dire circumstances arise. All our puppies are given microchips, so they can be identified at any shelter or by any vet, and returned to their owner as soon as possible after being found and identified.

Ziva

Ziva at 11 weeks
Ziva at 6 months

Ziva, one of two females from Bridget's first litter has joined our Sugarloaf Shepherds family for the long haul. Her name means "bright, radiant" in Hebrew, Ziva's formal AKC name is Sugarloaf Music of the Night. Linda named her this way because she thinks the song "Music of the Night," from Phantom of the Opera, is a beautiful song and Ziva is a beautiful puppy. (Linda names all our puppies.) In celebration of Ziva's joining our family, we decided to put the following link on our website to a video of Josh Groban performing "Music of the Night" at a special Kennedy Center tribute to Andrew Lloyd Weber, who was in the audience. At six months old, Ziva has already earned 10 points and two majors towards a championship in the WGSDCA, so it appears we made the right choice in keeping a Bridget puppy. Ziva has also completed Level II in Pat Miller's training program and is currently in novice training for rally obedience in the Mason-Dixon Kennel Club, headquartered in Hagerstown, MD.
